The small things that bring someone back
Grand tributes have their place, but it is usually the small things that catch you off guard. A song on the radio. A smell from a kitchen. A phrase you did not realise you had inherited until it came out of your own mouth.
Collect the small things
These little details are worth saving precisely because they are so easy to lose. Add them to their page as they come to you, and gently encourage others to do the same.
- A song they loved, or one that reminds you of them
- A recipe in their handwriting
- A saying or a joke that was always theirs
- The place they were happiest
- A habit or a kindness that was completely their own
Why it matters
Years from now, a grandchild might play that song, cook that meal, or repeat that phrase, and feel close to someone they never got to meet. The small things are how a person keeps arriving in the lives that follow.
